Having resided in their home for nearly three decades, this couple, now grandparents, embarked on a comprehensive remodel to align their dwelling with contemporary standards. Central to the transformation was the creation of a vibrant great room. By removing partition walls, the former office, kitchen nook, and family room seamlessly merged, creating an expansive open area enhanced by a spacious island and abundant natural light from triple-sided windows. In honoring their Japanese heritage, design elements such as minimalist cabinetry in darker hues and oversized pendant lighting were strategically incorporated. Additionally, the project encompassed the reconfiguration of the primary bathroom, necessitating the relocation of a half bath to optimize spatial efficiency. Further structural modifications included the creation of a formal living room and dining room ensemble through the repositioning of the fireplace. Comprehensive upgrades to electrical and plumbing systems were also executed to ensure functionality and safety. The culmination of these endeavors yielded a modernized space tailored to the clients’ needs, providing a welcoming environment for family gatherings spanning generations.
